Move over 007, you will need to make room for the Zander Zone. The spy game has a new and much more interesting secret agent, his friends call him X, short for the tat he sports on the back of his of neck, a big bold XXX. Zander Cage (Vin Diesel, The Fast and the Furious) has everything 007 has, including the honnies. His car is not a cliché BMW ragtop, nope Zander drives a vintage GTO supped up to even throw fireballs. His drink is not the tired old martini, shaken not stirred, but a cranberry and club soda. And the girls, well the things he is gonna do for his country. There will be no drugs, cigarettes or booze for this extremist. Zander is into creating the most outrageous extreme sport stunts possible, including out snowboarding an avalanche he created. Why the secret agent gig then? Well this hottie did not want to save the world, the NSA came looking for him. More specifically NSA agent Gibbons (Samuel L Jackson, Changing Lanes) was tired of losing agents, so instead of sending mice into the snake hole, he will send a snake. The NSA loses another agent in Prague, well yeah like the moron didn’t stick out. He was wearing a tux in a punk club. So Gibbons decides to go for a bad boy (hell, they’re expendable). In the meantime Zander lifts a Corvette belonging to a politician. He makes a short film segment while on the run in this vehicle, which he criticizes Congressman Dick, then proceeds to drive the Vette off a hillside while parasailing to safety as the car careens, then explodes. At the celebration party the NSA nabs Zander and gives him a few tests, which give insight into what makes this bad boy tick. In typical Diesel fashion he is once again the bad boy with a heart. The bad guy we all love. So, Zander is off to Prague and instantly clicks with Yorgi (Marton Csokas, Lord of The Rings Part 1) and the icy Yelena (Asia Argento). Does this agent with no spy training succeed? Dude, it is Hollywood you know. But the stunts are memorable and once again Diesel is strapped with his arms raised over his head like they were in Pitch Black, so we get a good shot of those fabulous arms, shoulders and hmmmm that buff chest. An action movie is an action movie. People die, there are explosions and a lot of gun fire. What separates one action movie from another are the one-liners for comedic relief. I’ll be back, Make my day, I don’t have time to bleed (in case you were wondering Predator, Jesse the Body Ventura.) and Adrienne. Diesel hits those one-liners with great comedic timing, so this film is not only exciting, but it is funny. I loved every minute of being in the Zander Zone. Rob Cohen directed XXX as well as directing Diesel in The Fast and the Furious. This movie had action, adventure, comedy and the yummy body of Diesel, sorry no bootie shots, but those shoulders will suffice. I gave XXX a 10 on the About-Movies.com scale because it did it all for me. Kowabunga.
