The Review:

Hello, hello, hello and welcome, welcome, welcome to another Out & About movie review, I am Mike Stevens, your movie reviewing person. This week's movie is the brand new thriller from Columbia House pictures, Urban Legend. In case you don't know what an urban legend is here's a little definition: It's some horrible event that usually cost at least one person their life, but is totally fictional. And what is more is that often this myth is passed on as truth all over the country so that each community thinks that their community is the place that the event happened. For instance the myth that someone died by mixing pop rocks and soda pop. Frankly, it just isn't true. Now back to the movie starring a bunch of no names like Jared Leto (previously in Prefontaine), Alicia Witt (Bongwater), Michael Rosenbaum, Rebecca Gayheart, and some others. You may not recognize their names, but you might recognize some of their faces. Urban Legend was directed by Jamie Blanks, again no director I have ever heard of. So now you're asking what do all this nonamers do? Well they die. And then some others die. Big mystery as to who dunit, and now we are all scared. Anyway, this story takes place at Pendelton University, some fictitious college in the Northeast, where a massacre had taken place 25 years before, or had it! Some believed it had happened, others said it was just another urban legend. Eventually we find out. But you'll have to go to find out. The plot is that someone is killing student at the university using urban legends. The one common link to all of these is the character of Natalie played by Alicia Witt. She has friends dying left and right but can't figure out who the killer is. Sound familiar? Sounds like Scream or Scream 2 to me, which are both much better films than Urban Legend. In the end w e discover who the killer is and why, as well as if they catch the person. Let me count the reasons why this isn't a great film: one the acting is not great, two the story is old, three not enough people die for this to be a real thriller, and fin ally and most importantly, the movie is a tad predictable. There are a few good points to the film, a few scares and a few laughs, plus this isn't Out of Sight. So for the Out & About rating of Urban Legend, I give it four couches out of ten. Not good, but then again not bad. I guess it' s probably worth the matinee price or cheep night, which by the way is Mondays. I have been Mike Stevens for the Out & About movie review saying so long and see ya next week. Later gators.
